Content guidelines and flagged videos

Write Do's and Don'ts for a campaign, add Auto-scan rules (like the language videos must be in) that Cruva checks on every new video, and keep or disqualify the videos it flags.

For brands running campaigns that count videos: contests, leaderboards, races, retainers, bingo and sweepstakes.

The short version

  • Every campaign has a Content Guidelines table on the Content & rules step: Do's and Don'ts creators see before they join.
  • The Check column shows who checks each row. Presets marked Auto-scan are checked by Cruva on every new video. Some are Don'ts, such as AI-generated content, faceless videos or a minimum length. Others are Do's, such as the Video language (for example, Spanish only), talking in the video, or showing the product in the first 3 seconds. Rows marked You check are yours to enforce.
  • A video that may break an Auto-scan preset is flagged. It doesn't count toward goals, tiers or payouts until you Keep it.
  • You decide each flag from the campaign page: Keep video or Disqualify. Undecided flags are kept automatically after 7 days, or when the campaign is ending.
  • Don'ts you write yourself, and the fraud, spam and boosting presets, are marked You check: they're shown to creators but never checked automatically. Enforce them with Disqualify.

Write your Do's and Don'ts

Open the campaign editor and go to Content & rules.

  • Add Requirement adds a row in your own words. It starts as a Do: click the Do / Don't label to switch it.
  • Select from previous guidelines copies rows from another campaign or a creator brief.
  • A campaign can have up to 10 Don'ts, preset and written together. The counter beside Add Requirement shows how many you have. Do's, including the Auto-scan Do's, don't count toward it.
  • Common requirements under the table lists the presets you haven't added yet. Click one to add it. Do presets have a green plus. Presets with the sparkle icon are checked by Auto-scan. The other three, faking purchases or returning the product, reposting or mass-producing videos, and boosting the video yourself, can't be checked, so they're marked You check and you enforce them by hand.
  • Preset rows can't be edited, only removed. Hover the ⓘ icon beside one to see what it covers.

Content Inspiration Videos sits under the table. It's optional: open it to pick example videos by hand or show your top videos automatically.

Have Cruva check new videos

Add the rules you want checked from Common requirements. The box above the table shows how Auto-scan works: a creator posts a video, Cruva scans it against the rows marked Auto-scan, and you review the flags. There's no separate switch: Auto-scan runs while the campaign has at least one Auto-scan preset, and stops when you remove the last one.

Preset DoWhat gets flagged
Video languageVideos in a language you didn't pick. Click Add language to choose one or more (for example, Spanish, or Spanish and English).
Talking in the videoNo one talks, on camera or as a voiceover: videos with only music or text.
Product in the first 3 secondsThe product isn't on screen within the first 3 seconds.
Preset Don'tWhat gets flagged
AI-generated contentVideos whose main footage or presenter is synthetic.
Faceless videosThe creator's face is never on camera.
Misleading claimsHealth or results claims the product can't make, fake urgency, false prices.
Product not shownThe product never appears on screen.
Copyrighted musicA copyrighted song instead of an original or licensed sound.
Sounds that aren't the creator's ownA song or another creator's sound instead of the creator's own audio.
Poor lightingDark or unclear footage.
Video under N secondsVideos shorter than the length you set.
Banned words and phrasesYour words or phrases, matched as whole words in the caption, what's said, and on-screen text.

Checks apply to videos posted after you save the campaign with its first Auto-scan preset. Videos posted before then aren't checked. Once Auto-scan is on, the box above the table shows the date it started. Each new video is analyzed first and is shown as Checking until the analysis lands, usually within one sync.

Photo carousels and LIVEs aren't checked. Commission Boost campaigns don't offer automatic checks.

Review flagged videos

When videos are flagged, the Needs your action strip on the campaign page shows N videos flagged for review. Open it to see each creator, the Don't the video may break, and a Review button. See all in Campaign Videos opens the full list.

In Campaign Videos, use the All, Flagged and Disqualified tabs. The Status column shows why each video is flagged or disqualified. Click it to open the video's review panel, which shows:

  • the rule it may break, and the detail behind it (the matched words, the claim and when it's said, how long the video is, how long the product is on screen, the language detected);
  • when it will be kept automatically if no one decides;
  • the video, its post date, product, views and GMV.

Then:

  • Keep video: it counts from now on. Progress updates right away; GMV updates on the next sync.
  • Disqualify: pick the reason (the flag's reason is filled in, and your own written Don'ts are listed too). You can tell the creator: by default a message goes to their Cruva chat, which also sends a push notification. Edit the message or turn it off.

Both decisions show an Undo button for a few seconds, which puts the video back in the flagged list.

On the Flagged tab, select several videos to Keep selected or Disqualify selected at once.

A flag can't be decided once the creator has been paid for that period, or once the campaign has ended (unpaid periods of ended retainers excepted).

What creators see

  • Before joining, creators see your Do's and Don'ts (including the presets, such as "Post your video in Spanish") and confirm I've read the Do's and Don'ts.
  • On the campaign page, your Do's and Don'ts sit in two cards. When the campaign has at least one Auto-scan preset, a note under them tells creators that videos are reviewed automatically after posting and may not qualify for rewards if they break a guideline.
  • A flagged video shows Under review by the brand on their campaign page, with the Don't it may break.
  • A kept video simply counts. A disqualified video shows Not counted with your reason and note.

Common questions

Does a flagged video count while I decide? No. It's held out of goals, tiers, leaderboards and payouts until you keep it, or until it's kept automatically after 7 days. Videos still flagged when the campaign is ending are kept automatically before payouts are calculated.

Why didn't a video with my written Don't get flagged? Only rows marked Auto-scan are checked automatically. Don'ts in your own words are marked You check: they're shown to creators, and you disqualify a video by hand if it breaks one.

My campaign is for Spanish videos only. How do I keep English videos out? Add Video language from Common requirements and pick Spanish. New videos in any other language are flagged for you to keep or disqualify. Videos posted before you added it aren't checked, so disqualify those by hand from Campaign Videos.

What does "Couldn't verify" mean? Cruva couldn't analyze the video, usually because it was deleted, made private, or blocked. It's flagged so you can decide: keep it if it's fine.

A video doesn't feature the campaign's products. Why isn't it flagged? Product mismatches are disqualified automatically, as they always have been. See Products and content types.

I removed an Auto-scan preset. What happens to videos it flagged? They're unflagged on the next sync and count again, unless you already disqualified them.

How does this work with post review? If post review is on too, a flagged post leaves the review queue until you decide the flag. Keeping it also approves it. A flag you don't decide within 7 days goes back to the review queue instead of being kept, and your post review settings take over from there.
